What Google Business Profile management is, in two paragraphs.
Google Business Profile management is the weekly work of keeping your listing on Google Search and Maps accurate, complete and active, so you show up in the map pack and customers pick you. It covers your categories and services, hours, photos, posts, review requests and replies, and the directory listings that confirm who you are. Google drove more than 2.5 billion calls, direction requests, bookings and other direct connections a month for US businesses in 20256.
It matters more in 2026 because your profile is now read by AI as well as by people. Google’s Ask Maps and AI Overviews answer customer questions from your details and your reviews7, and 45% of consumers now use AI tools for local recommendations3. We manage profiles for local businesses nationwide from Jacksonville, starting at $300 a month per profile, month-to-month.
The five things that move a map pack most.
The top five local pack factors from Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey of 47 experts, and what we do about each. The survey is expert opinion, not measured data, and it is the best-known benchmark in the field.
- #1
Primary category1
Pick the category that matches your main revenue, not everything you do. The rest become secondary categories, services and products.
- #2
Proximity to the searcher1
You can’t move your address, but you can make every nearby search count: service-area content, neighborhood posts and reviews that name the places you serve.
- #3
Keywords in the business name1
Use your real business name, exactly as it appears on your signage. Adding keywords breaks Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended.
- #4
A physical address in the city searched1
A real address inside the city customers search for helps. Virtual offices and mailbox addresses are not eligible for a profile.
- #5
Open at the time of search1
Accurate hours keep you in “open now” results. Holiday and event hours, set ahead of time, are the easiest win on most profiles.
What hurts most, per the same survey: a listing marked permanently closed, the wrong primary category, and another profile in the same category at your address1.
How fresh your Google reviews need to be.
Reviews are the part of your profile customers read most closely. In BrightLocal’s 2026 survey, 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses3, 74% look for reviews from the last three months and 32% want one from the last two weeks3.
Star rating sets who will even consider you: 68% will only use a business rated four stars or higher, and 31% want 4.5 or more3. Replies matter too. 89% expect owners to respond, and 19% now expect a reply the same day3.
Enter your numbers. The tool uses only the survey figures above; it does not predict rankings.
You need about one new review every two weeks to always show a recent one.
Google Business Profile changed a lot since 2024. Most business profiles haven’t caught up.
The features that disappeared, the rules that got stricter, and the AI layer that now reads your profile and reviews for customers.
- Mar 2024
Business Profile websites shut down8
Sites built on business.site stopped working; redirects ended June 10, 2024.
- Jul 2024
Chat and call history removed9
Google turned off Business Profile chat, call history, chat FAQs and quote requests on July 31, 2024.
- Oct 2024
FTC fake-review rule takes effect10
Buying reviews, fake or AI-written reviews and suppressing negative reviews can bring civil penalties.
- Nov 2025
Public Q&A replaced by “Ask”11
The Q&A API ended; Maps now answers customer questions with AI, drawing on your details and your reviews.
- Mar 2026
Ask Maps launches7
Gemini-powered Ask Maps draws on 300M+ places and reviews from 500M+ contributors.
- Apr 2026
Stricter review-request rules12
Businesses can no longer ask staff to collect a set number of reviews or reviews that name them.
When your city asks AI who to call, your profile is the source.
In a BrightLocal test across Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT, every AI tool used directories and citations for business information, and Yelp was a source in 33% of searches<a href="#src-4" aria-label="Source 4">4</a>. Being on the lists AI trusts is now part of profile work.
Stay verified, stay out of review jail.
The Google rules behind most suspended and stuck profiles we are asked to fix.
How verification works
Google offers phone or text, email, a live video call, a video recording or a postcard, and it decides which methods you get15. Reviews take up to 5 business days, and most postcards arrive within 14 days15.
Video verification, done right
The recording must be unedited, continuous and at least 30 seconds long, showing the location, permanent signage and proof you manage the business. Service-area businesses show tools and proof of operation instead16.
What gets profiles suspended
Keywords or taglines in the business name2, virtual offices2, showing an address as a service-area business, and service areas far beyond two hours’ drive5. Whitespark’s 2026 survey also flags AI-written profile text as a new suspension risk1.
Reviews you can’t fake
Google removed more than 292 million policy-violating reviews in 202517 and can block new reviews and show customers a warning18. The FTC’s fake-review rule, in effect since October 2024, allows civil penalties10. Incentives, gating and bought reviews are out19.
Twelve cities, twelve different map packs.
Each city page maps its ZIP codes in a proximity lab, times posts to local events and seasons, and plans for the weather that closes businesses there.

You can run your own Google Business Profile for free. Managed Google Business Profile optimization makes sense when the weekly work (posts, photos, review replies, citations and hours) keeps slipping, or when a wrong change could get the profile suspended. If that has already happened, read our guide on getting a suspended Google Business Profile back.

Google Business Profile management, answered.
What is Google Business Profile optimization?
Google Business Profile optimization is setting up and maintaining your profile so Google shows it higher in the map pack and in AI answers. It covers the right primary and secondary categories, services, hours, photos, weekly posts, a steady flow of reviews with replies, and consistent business details across the web. We do it every week, from $300 a month per profile.
What does Google Business Profile management cost?
Our Google Business Profile management starts at $300 a month per profile, month-to-month. It covers category and service setup, hours and special hours, weekly posts, photo updates, a compliant review request flow, reply drafts, citation cleanup and a monthly report. You keep ownership of the profile and every login.
How long until the profile ranks better?
Fixes like the right primary category, accurate hours and removing duplicate listings can show results within a few weeks. Steady gains in competitive map packs usually take a few months of reviews, posts and citation work. We report what moved each month and never promise a ranking, because proximity to each searcher is outside anyone’s control.
What matters most for ranking in the map pack?
In Whitespark’s 2026 survey of local search experts, the top five factors are your primary category, proximity to the searcher, keywords in the business name, a physical address in the city being searched, and being open at the time of search. Review ratings, review count and recency follow close behind.
Can I add my city or keywords to my business name?
No, unless they are part of your real business name on your signage. Google’s guidelines say taglines, keywords and store codes in the name are not permitted and can lead to suspension. The name is a ranking factor, which is exactly why Google enforces this rule.
How do reviews affect my profile?
Reviews affect both ranking and choice. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found 97% of consumers read reviews, 68% only use businesses rated four stars or higher, and 74% look for reviews from the last three months. A steady flow of new reviews, with a reply to every one, beats a burst of reviews followed by silence.
Is it allowed to ask customers for reviews?
Yes. You can ask every customer for an honest review. You cannot offer incentives, ask only happy customers, or write or buy reviews. Since April 2026, Google also bars asking staff to collect a set number of reviews or reviews that mention them by name.
What happened to Google Business Profile chat and Q&A?
Google removed Business Profile chat and call history on July 31, 2024. The public Q&A section was replaced by an AI “Ask” experience that answers customer questions from your business details and reviews. Complete services, attributes and detailed reviews now do the job Q&A used to.
Do you handle suspended or unverified profiles?
Yes. We find the likely cause, fix the profile so it matches Google’s guidelines, gather the documents and handle reinstatement or verification. Google chooses the verification methods available to each business, and reviews can take up to five business days.
Does my Business Profile affect AI answers?
Increasingly, yes. Ask Maps and AI Overviews draw on business details and reviews, and AI assistants read directories and citations. Whitespark’s 2026 survey ranks being on expert-curated “best of” lists as the top AI visibility factor, so profile work now includes citations and lists.
Do you manage profiles for businesses outside Florida?
Yes. We are based in Jacksonville and manage profiles for local businesses nationwide. For our published cities, see the Google Business Profile pages for Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Charleston and six more.
