Can that bad review actually come down?
Only reviews that break Google’s policies can be removed. Here is how we sort them before you spend a dollar.
Pick the description that fits. We’ll tell you if it can likely be removed, the policy it falls under and what we would do.
Based on Google’s review policies.3 Google makes the final decision on every report.4
How many reviews to get from 4.2 to 4.6?
Your average moves slowly once you have a lot of reviews. This shows how many new five-star reviews it takes, and how long at your pace.

Removal fixes the past. A plan fixes the next 100 reviews.
Most businesses don’t have a review problem. They have a review volume problem: too few recent reviews, so one bad one does all the talking. Our monthly plans fix the volume, the replies and the monitoring. Pricing depends on your locations and platforms, and we quote it after the free audit.
Already working with us on your Google Business Profile? Review requests and replies can be added to that plan.
Get a free review audit- Review requests after every jobText and email requests sent to every customer, the same way, the day the job is done. No filtering out unhappy customers.
- Replies in your voiceEvery review gets a reply written for the reviewer and the next customer. Sensitive replies go to you for approval first.
- Monitoring and alertsGoogle, Bing, Yelp, Facebook, BBB and your industry sites. An alert for every new review.
- Removal of policy violationsFake, conflicted or abusive reviews documented and reported through Google’s own process.
- Monthly reputation reportRating, review count, recency, response time and how you compare with the three competitors next to you in the map pack.
No fake reviews. No gating. No shortcuts that get you banned.
Buying reviews or hiding unhappy customers can put a profile in “review jail”, where new reviews stop publishing for about six to eight months.5 It is also illegal: the FTC’s 2024 rule bans fake and bought reviews and allows civil penalties.6
So we ask every customer, the same way, for an honest review. That is slower than a shortcut and it lasts.

Can you remove bad reviews from Google?
We can remove reviews that break Google’s policies: fake reviews, reviews from competitors or former employees, off-topic reviews, and reviews with harassment, hate speech or private information. We document the violation and report it through Google’s own process, including the Reviews Management Tool and its one-time appeal. Google makes the final decision, and nobody can remove an honest negative review from a real customer.
How much does review removal cost?
Removal is $400 per review for reviews six months old or newer, and $700 per review for older reviews, which usually need a deeper audit and escalation. Before you pay anything, we tell you which reviews qualify and which ones don’t.
How long does it take to remove a Google review?
Google says review evaluation usually takes several days. In our experience, reviews six months old or newer are usually resolved in two to four weeks, including an appeal if needed, and older reviews take four to eight weeks.
What if a review can’t be removed?
We say so up front and don’t charge a removal fee for it. Instead we write a reply that answers the complaint for future customers, and we set up review requests so newer, representative reviews push your average back up.
Is it allowed to ask customers for reviews?
Yes. Google and the FTC allow you to ask customers for honest reviews. What is not allowed: paying or rewarding reviews, writing fake ones, asking only happy customers (review gating), or asking staff to collect reviews that mention their names. We ask every customer the same way.
What is “review jail”?
When Google detects fake reviews on a profile, it can block new reviews for months, remove existing ones and show a warning to customers. Sterling Sky reports blocks of about six to eight months. It is the main reason we never buy reviews or use shortcuts.
Do you respond to reviews for us?
Yes, on our monthly plans. We draft replies in your voice for every review, positive and negative, and you approve anything sensitive before it posts. BrightLocal found 89% of consumers expect businesses to respond.
Which review sites do you monitor?
Google first, because that is where most local customers read reviews, then Bing, Yelp, Facebook, BBB and industry sites that matter for your trade. You get an alert for every new review and a monthly report on rating, volume and response time.
