Locksmith PPC management built for verified, licensed locksmiths.
This page shows how Google Ads works for a locksmith in 2026: the verification Google requires before your first ad runs, how to split lockouts from car keys and rekeys, and what clicks and management cost. It is written for shop owners and mobile locksmiths deciding whether to hire an agency or keep running ads themselves.

What a locksmith budget buys at today's click prices.
Enter your monthly spend and see how many clicks it buys in the $10 to $40 range. Then decide how much radius and how many hours you can afford to cover.
At $10 to $40 a click, $1,000 a month buys roughly 25 to 100 clicks, so a small budget has to be focused on one service area and your best-paying job types before it spreads out. Most locksmiths start with lockouts and car keys inside the radius they can reach quickly, then add commercial and rekey work once calls are tracked to booked jobs. The cost-per-click range comes from our free CPC checker; the two percentages are yours to set.
Four campaigns, one for each job type.
A 2 a.m. house lockout, a lost key fob and a landlord rekey are different searches with different ticket sizes. They should never share a budget.
- 01Largest share
Emergency lockouts (home and car)
Exact and phrase match on searches like 'locked out of house' and 'car lockout near me', with call ads and call assets on every ad. Run it 24/7 with higher bids for the evening and overnight hours you actually staff. Send clicks to a lockout page with your licensed business name, service area and a tap-to-call button, and bid on calls, not page views.
- 02About a third
Automotive keys and fobs
Target 'car key replacement', 'key fob programming' and make-specific searches like 'Honda key replacement', where callers are comparing you with the dealer. Use ad groups by make so the ad and landing page name the car. Schedule it for daytime and early evening and bid toward booked jobs once you have conversion data.
- 03Smaller, steady share
Rekey and lock change
Phrase match on 'rekey locks', 'change locks after moving' and 'lock replacement', aimed at new homeowners, renters and landlords. Business hours only, with a page that lists hardware brands you install and offers online booking. These jobs can be scheduled, so a form conversion is as useful as a call.
- 04Test budget
Commercial and access control
Searches like 'commercial locksmith', 'master key system' and 'access control installation' from property managers and business owners. Weekday daytime schedule, a landing page with commercial work and a quote form, and manual or target CPA bidding once leads come in. Ticket size is higher, so a few leads a month can justify it.

The full list, with intent tiers, CPC estimates and copy-ready match types: locksmith keywords for Google Ads.
Google verifies locksmiths before a single ad runs.
In the US and Canada, Google lists locksmith services as a restricted category: to advertise, you must apply for advanced verification. Google says the process combines a review of your Google Ads account, public records such as state registrations and professional licenses, and video interviews. Answers have to be complete and accurate, and Google can revoke verification, which can stop your ads partly or completely.
The rule exists because the trade was flooded with fake listings and call centers that posed as local shops, dispatched untrained techs and charged far more than the quote. Google has been fighting this since at least 2016, and in 2025 it sued a network it said had created fake Maps listings in urgent-service categories like locksmiths. For a real locksmith, verification is the price of entry and also your edge: the more consistent your records are, the faster you get through and the harder you are to confuse with a scammer.
- Make your business name, address and phone match on your state license or registration, Google Business Profile, website and invoices before you apply.
- Use one real business location and one main phone number, not a set of virtual offices or out-of-area numbers.
- Have the owner ready for Google's video interview with your license, vehicle and work documents at hand.
- Keep the Google Ads account in your business's name so verification and history stay with you if you ever change agencies.
Where locksmith ads show up on Google.
Search, Local Services Ads, Performance Max and call ads each reach a different caller. Here is what each one is good for and where it leaks money.
| Channel | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Search ads | Lockout, car key and rekey searches where you control keywords, hours, radius and the ad text. | Nothing runs until advanced verification is approved, and broad match drifts into lock-picking, training and DIY searches. |
| Local Services Ads | Locksmiths is a listed US Local Services Ads category, so you can pay per lead and show your reviews above the regular ads. | Google says pre-badge ads are not available for locksmiths, so you get no LSA leads until every onboarding check is done. |
| Performance Max | Remarketing and Maps reach for commercial and access control work once Search is profitable. | It spends across Display and YouTube, where nobody is locked out, and hides which searches triggered your ads. |
| Call-only / call ads | Mobile searchers standing outside a locked door or car who want to dial, not browse. | Short price-shopping calls count as conversions unless you set a minimum call length and review recordings. |
Count booked jobs, not just ringing phones.
Locksmith calls are short and full of price shoppers. Tracking has to separate a dispatched job from a two-minute 'how much' call.
Call tracking with job outcomes
Use Google forwarding numbers on ads and CallRail on the site, then tag each call as dispatched, quoted or price shopper. Keep your main business number consistent everywhere else so tracking never looks like the multi-number pattern scammers use.
Minimum call length
A lockout call that books can be under two minutes, so set the threshold by listening to real calls, not by a default. Review recordings weekly and adjust until 'conversions' in Google Ads match jobs on your dispatch board.
Booked jobs from your field software
Pass the click ID into Workiz, ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber when a job is created. Import completed jobs and invoice totals back to Google Ads as offline conversions so bidding favors car keys and commercial work over $50 calls.
Missed and after-hours calls
Track calls that ring out at night as their own conversion and check them every morning. If they pile up after 10 p.m., either staff the phone or cut bids for those hours.

Five mistakes that drain locksmith ad budgets.
We see these in almost every locksmith account we audit.
- 01
Waiting to start verification
Owners build ads first and only then find out locksmith ads cannot run without advanced verification. Start the application the day you decide to advertise, with documents that all match.
- 02
Teaser service-call prices
Ads that advertise a tiny service charge look exactly like the bait-and-switch scams state consumer agencies warn about. Quote real prices up front, show your license, and let reviews do the selling.
- 03
One campaign for every job
When lockouts, car keys and commercial work share one budget, the cheapest calls eat it and high-ticket jobs never get impressions. Split by job type so you can bid each one on what it pays.
- 04
A radius you cannot reach
A lockout caller wants someone fast, and a tech 45 minutes away loses the job or the review. Target the area you can reach quickly and expand only where you have coverage.
- 05
Same bids at 2 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Overnight lockouts are urgent and valuable only if someone answers. Bid up for hours you staff and down or off for hours that go to voicemail.
When locksmith calls spike and slow down.
Locksmith demand never stops, but the mix changes. Car lockouts and frozen or broken locks climb in cold weather, rekeys and lock changes follow moving season in late spring and summer, and commercial work tracks business hours. Evenings, weekends and holidays bring the most urgent lockout calls.
- BeforeBefore winter and moving season, refresh car key and rekey ad groups and confirm your verification and LSA profile are current.
- DuringDuring cold snaps and busy weekends, raise lockout bids for the hours you staff and watch missed calls daily.
- AfterAfter the rush, shift budget back to commercial and scheduled rekey work and add new negatives from the search terms report.

Locksmith Google Ads questions owners ask us.
How much do Google Ads cost for locksmiths?
Locksmith clicks usually fall between $10 and $40 in our CPC checker, a planning range that varies by city and competition. Lockout and car key searches cost the most, and night and weekend auctions run hotter. Your total cost is your ad spend, paid to Google, plus management.
How much should a locksmith spend on Google Ads to start?
Start with enough to cover your main service area and your best job types every day, not a thin budget spread across every service. At $10 to $40 a click, $1,000 a month buys roughly 25 to 100 clicks. Many locksmiths start with lockouts and car keys, then add rekey and commercial campaigns once calls are tracked to jobs.
Do locksmiths need advanced verification to run Google Ads?
Yes. In the US and Canada, Google restricts locksmith ads and requires advanced verification before they run. Google reviews your account, public records such as state registrations and licenses, and conducts video interviews. Keep your business details consistent everywhere to avoid delays.
Should a locksmith use Google Ads or Local Services Ads?
Most locksmiths do best with both. Locksmiths is a listed Local Services Ads category in the US, where you pay per lead, but Google does not offer pre-badge ads for locksmiths, so LSA leads start only after every check is complete. Search ads give you control over job types, hours and keywords that LSA does not.
How long until a locksmith gets calls from Google Ads?
Once your verification is approved, Search and call ads can produce lockout calls within days of launch. Getting cost per job down takes several weeks of adding negatives, adjusting hours and moving budget toward the job types that pay. Verification itself can take longer than the campaign build, so start it first.
How do locksmiths cut wasted Google Ads spend?
Add negative keywords for training, tools, jobs and DIY searches like 'locksmith school', 'lock pick set' and 'how to pick a lock'. Review the search terms report weekly, cut bids for hours nobody answers, and keep the radius to areas you can reach fast. Our free locksmith keyword list shows which searches are worth paying for.
What does locksmith PPC management cost?
Our fee is based on monthly ad spend: under $1,000 is $400/mo, $1,000-$1,499 is $500, $1,500-$1,999 is $600, $2,000-$3,999 is $800, $4,000-$5,999 is $1,000, $6,000-$7,999 is $1,200 and $8,000-$9,999 is $1,500. At $10,000 and up it is 15%, falling to 8% at $100K+. Ad spend goes to Google directly, terms are month-to-month and your locksmith business owns the account.
Should locksmith ads run 24 hours a day?
Only for the hours someone will answer. Lockout ads overnight can win valuable calls, but an unanswered call is money paid for a lead that goes to the next locksmith. Run lockout campaigns around the clock only if you staff the phone, and keep rekey and commercial ads to business hours.
